track paddle board distance and route
I would like to track my paddle board distance and route using my iWatch (series 3).
First I tried using rowing and that does not track your route.
Then I decided to use outdoor, open walk. I also used run keeper simultaneously to see the differences (I started run keeper about 5 minutes after iwatch open walk). The open walk said I went a distance of 1.31 miles and run keeper said I went 2.19 (and remember it was started later). When I look at the picture of the route I took they both look accurate. I would prefer to use iWatch app as it activates the heart rate monitor.
Open swim looks like it tracks distance, not sure about route, but it does not do heart rate.

It is not currently possible to accurately track the results of paddle boarding workouts via the Workout app whilst also recording distance and a route map.
For each of the main activity types in the Workout app, Apple Watch uses tailored calorie calculations and the most relevant sensors for that activity type.
The Workout app includes two swimming activity types: Pool Swim and Open Water Swim. However, both of these assume that you will be swimming continuously, so neither is appropriate for paddle boarding. Similarly, Outdoor Walk assumes that you are walking, so is again not appropriate.
For activities that are not included in the main activity types, instead record your activity as "Other". This will credit one minute of Exercise for each full minute of the workout. Active calories will be estimated at a rate equivalent to a brisk walk or based on data recorded by the heart rate sensor, whichever is higher. However, neither distance nor a route map are recorded for Other workouts.
When saving your workout, tap on "Name Workout" to label your Other workout activity as "Paddling".
You may wish to lock your watch to prevent accidental screen interactions during your workout:
For the best performance from the heart rate sensor (the accuracy of which can potentially be affected by water), be sure to wear your Apple Watch snugly (but not too tightly) during your workouts. Apple suggests tightening your Apple Watch band before workouts and loosening it again afterwards:
