Replacing lost item
I left my iPad (2.0) on a plane. It was old with a cracked screen and zero battery life. Someone would surely trun it in right? When I did not hear back from the airline I erased its contents. Should I change my appleID and/or password before activating a new iPad?
Important question: prior to losing it, did you enable Find my iPhone? From what you describe (you erased its contents using the Find My iPhone app), you did, so changing your Apple ID and/or password is not required.
For reference: If your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch is lost or stolen - Apple Support. It sounds as though you skipped right to Step 5, which is OK, it just means that you won't be able to determine its location any more.
I would change everything myself.
