How to restore all files from iCloud to my Mac?

Nightmare! I signed out of iCloud, and it deleted all of my files from my Mac. To make matters worse, I had just wiped and formatted my Time Capsule, so no backup...

Is there a way to restore all files in iCloud to my Mac drive at once, or do I have to do it little by little, manually, which will take days?

PS I am on the very latest version of everything. This is actually why I was doing what led to the above problem. Wish I hadn't bothered...

Hi, I tried what you suggested, I assumed you meant restart the Mac after I turned off the iCloud Drive. My desktop is still empty. I went back iCloud Drive and  clicked it on and everything came back. I need to get that out of iCloud because I use the Mac off-line where there is no network connection. What happened?
