iPad lock screen

I updated my iPad mini 4 to iOS 11 seemingly without incident--except for this annoyance. When I open the cover my wallpaper is intact, but the next lock screen with numbers is very difficult to read (is there another term for this 2nd screen?) My husband's iPad, also updated to iOS 11 has the same background photo as wallpaper for both screens. I have tried a hard re-set of the iPad, re-sending the photo (when I couldn't find it stored in iPad photos and re-setting the wallpaper. I have cataracts and those numerals are really difficult to discern for me--if there is another accessible setting to help make them more visible, I'd appreciate learning about it.
