MacBook pro internal speakers.

I can barely hear my MacBook Pro (Retina, Mid 2012) internal speakers. I used to be able to hear my speakers very well across a room now I can barely hear it sitting in front of the computer. Also when I play movies via HDMI to my tv the volume is very quiet. I'm not sure if that is a related problem or not. Any help would be appreciated.
