Back up issues.

Hello Apple Community,

I've had this issue for about a year, but procrastination put it off until now when I'm wanting to upgrade my phone. In hindsight I should've fixed it when my last back up was more current.

My phone has been refusing to back up for about a year now. It says its because my back up size is too large. When I click into management it says "Backup Size 5.29GB, Next Backup Size 3.1GB". I've turned many apps off to exclude from backing up since they dont really matter. But stuff like pictures, and game files I'd like to keep. After turning as much off as I can its down to 3.1GB for next Backup Size but still refuses to back up and claims not enough storage.

How do I bypass this issue? Wouldn't it delete the old back up and replace with the new smaller one automatically? Any help would be appreciated so I can upgrade.

Also, I've thought about doing a computer back up but without another phone I cant really test if it worked. Is it safe to say a full back up on my computer will transfer to my next phone?
