Apple Watch is no longer responding to iPhone a...

I have the Apple Sport Watch, 38 mm (version 1.0.1) and the iPhone 6 Plus (version 8.4.1) Last week my watch stopped responding to my iPhone alarm. No haptic, no notice, nothing. I have checked every setting and restarted both the phone and the watch several times and I can't get the watch to respond to the alarm. I have had the watch since May and it worked fine until last week.

As you have checked all the settings and tried restarting both devices (multiple times), next try unpairing and re-pairing your Apple Watch and iPhone.

The Apple Watch app on your iPhone takes backups of your watch automatically, including a fresh backup when unpairing via the app. When setting it up again after unpairing, choose to restore your Apple Watch from backup when offered the option by the Apple Watch app. Most data and settings will be restored, with only a few exclusions: calibration data (from Workout and Activity apps), synced playlists, cards used for Apple Pay on your watch, watch passcode.

Hi

On your iPhone, in the Apple Watch app, go to: My Watch > Clock - check that "Push Alerts from iPhone" is enabled.

Thank you Jonathon. I did have push alerts enabled so it must be something else.

Do you have Wrist Detection enabled on your watch (on your iPhone, in the Apple Watch app: My Watch > General > Wrist Detection - on) ?

Is your watch unlocked and on your wrist at the time when you expect to be notified about an iPhone alarm?

If it isn't - for example, if your watch is on the charger and charging - the iPhone alarm will not be pushed to your watch.

Wrist Detection is enabled. My watch is on my wrist and unlocked when my iPhone alarm goes off.

Thanks for your help Jonathan. I really appreciate it. I will try the unpairing tomorrow morning.

No problem! I look forward to hearing how you get on.

It works perfectly after I unpaired and repaired the watch! Thanks again!

You're most welcome! Thank you for confirming

There seems to be a shortcut to fixing this issue that was noted in the Developer forums here:

Haptic alarms broken in watchOS 4 (GM) | Apple Developer Forums

The tip was to create a new alarm on the iPhone (it doesn't even have to be enabled) and make sure that vibration is enabled for that alarm. Then create a new alarm on the watch and it should vibrate properly. You can then delete the iPhone alarm because it's not needed anymore.

This worked for me. The thought is that once the iphone alarm is set, it somehow enables vibration alerts for the watch alarm, much like re-pairing the watch, but it's a whole lot quicker! :-)
