Macbook Pro mid 2010 diagnostic question

Mid 2010 running Sierra, I have a wireless internet connection and I'm trying to run an diagnostic test on my machine. I get gray globe with may take a while msg then exclamation point contact apple support. Rebooted checked connection works fine then re tried same thing.

Any help?

If you get error messages in the low -1000's or low -2000's, these are indications that your Wi-Fi connection is inadequate for Internet Recovery Mode in some fashion.

Common problems include:

Hidden Network-name

required use of a proxy server to get Internet access

required use of a login page to get Internet access

Use of a login server or certificate to get Internet access

Use of PPPoE in the Mac to get Internet access (typically only applies to DSL)

Use of Fixed IP address rather than good old DHCP

Failure of Router to provide workable DNS server addresses

If you have an Ethernet port, you may in some cases be able to move your Mac close to the Router and connect to the Router using Ethernet.

NOTE: the diagnostic for your specific 2010 Mac is unlikely to be available via Internet Recovery. If you do not have your original release DVD with the diagnostic, please post back for sites where it may be available for download.

I'll hardwire in using ethernet. In case it does not work I do NOT have the dvd that came with  the machine, can you direct me where to download?

The diagnostic was placed at the factory in the following locations but there is nothing in MacOS that makes certain it stays there, so by now most Users have replaced or erased their boot drive and lost track of it

/System/Library/CoreServices/.diagnostics

...that is an invisible Directory, and locked down by the system to avoid modification. If you want to put it back, you would need to boot to an alternate MacOS drive or use Terminal or Single-User mode to copy the invisible folder back to its correct location.

same error with ethernet cable

what is the error, exactly?
