Deleted Files with Sierra 10.12.6 update

I just did the update and all my files/folders from my desktop (some VERY important) have magically disappeared. Some documents are present in Finder under "All My Documents" but a ton are not there.

What do I do? Can they come back? I need them back! HELP!

Look at your iCloud Drive  setting to see if you have moved them to the cloud.

>System Preferences>iCloud

macOS Sierra: Store your desktop and documents in iCloud Drive

I looked and there are only two documents in the iCloud. Both are documents I worked on yesterday.

The rest are not there.

You can easily rebuild the spotlight index

How to rebuild the Spotlight index on your Mac - Apple Support

or from terminal

Applications/Utilities/Terminal app. Copy and  paste in the following command.

sudo mdutil -E /

Terminal will ask you to enter your system password (psswd will not be echoed.) Once you’ve entered it, it will start rebuilding the index file for the default hard drive.

Thanks, I appreciate the assistance. I did that and now it says Indexing Enabled but nothing is happening. Is that normal?

You normally won't notice when Spotlight is indexing.
