Mail Error

I am trying to connect to an icloud email address through my mail programme, it used to work, all of a sudden it has stopped working.  I am using exactly the same settings as another icloud email address I have and that one is working fine.

Can anyone help?

You'll need to use an app-specific password as described above for each of your email accounts. You can issue such passwords at My Apple ID. You can only set up 2-factor authentication when you are logged in to your account as a primary ID, if you need to set up an account that you aren't signed into as a primary account, you'll need to create a second user ID on your Mac in order to sign in as a primary account.

Are you using a 3rd party mail application?

Apple now requires you to use two-factor authentication (two-step verification where two-factor authentication is not available) and create an app specific password for 3rd party applications that access your iCloud account with the use of a password, you can initiate the two-factor authentication (two-step verification) set up and create app specific passwords at My Apple ID

Two-factor authentication is currently available to iCloud users (in most locations) with at least one device that's using iOS 9 or OS X El Capitan or later. If you can’t meet the criteria for two-factor authentication you can set up two-step verification which only requires a device registered with ‘Find my phone' or a phone number able to receive SMS messages.

Well who knew Winston Churchill knew so much about modern tech!!

I have two factor set up, but in any case it is working for one email and not another...

In terms of the password generated for the app, where do I put it once it has been generated?

Which mail app do you use are both the addresses concerned Apple addresses.

I use Airmail and yes both @icloud.com addresses

You will need to follow WC's first post. You may need an app specific password for each account if one password doesn't work for both accounts.

I'm going to give a bit of background to see if that makes a difference.

I have an icloud account that I literally use to sign in to itunes and I can't work out how to merge/change it or anything so that's how it stays - this is the primary. I don't use it for emails or anything.

I have an old personal icloud email that is still working but is mainly junk which is why I set up a new one so I could just abandon it.  This one is the one that is working.

The new personal email - another icloud address - is the one that isn't working.

As far as I know - the password is connected to the app (Airmail) rather than the email account?  And I so far haven't found anywhere to actually provide that password that has been created.  But I'm assuming that because airmail is working with other accounts including an icloud one, that isn't the problem?

The error message I get is:

The settings are not valid:

Unable to authenticate with the current session's credentials.

Excellent - all done.  Thank you so much for your help!
