Partition greyed out

I'm trying to create a recovery install disk from my usb. I erased the usb and formatted to Mac extended journal, but the partition is still greyed out.

I went into terminal and pasted this diskutil erasedisk hfs+ External GPT /dev/disk  but it didn't couldn't find anything. I found that in another post.

I'm at a loss at what I can do.

I have a own mercury ssd drive, and a 2012 MacBook Pro.

Do you have access to another computer where you can test the drive?
