Series 2 is water damage under warranty?
Hello, since Watch Series 2 has guaranteed waterproof up to 50 meters I would like to know if Series 2 has water damage covered under warranty.
Hi
Apple Watch Series 2 is water resistant, not waterproof. Whilst the watch has a water resistance rating of 50 metres under ISO standard 22810:2010, Apple advises that it:
- May be used for shallow-water activities (eg swimming in a pool or ocean).
- Should not be used for activities involving submersion below shallow depth or high-velocity water (including scuba diving or waterskiing).
More information:
About Apple Watch water resistance - Apple Support
Warranty terms may vary by country. In the US and UK, the warranty does not currently refer directly to water or liquid damage.
Apple instead advises that the watch is covered against defects in materials and workmanship when used normally in accordance with Apple's published guidelines. It is not covered for damage caused by accident, abuse, misuse or operating the watch outside the user manual, technical specifications or other published guidelines.
AppleCare+ terms differ, as the service plan (or policy, depending on your location) covers accidental damage caused by liquid contact under normal, intended use.
For full details and conditions (which may also change over time), check with Apple and/or consult the warranty documentation for your country:

So basically what you're saying is the watch series 2 is supposed to be "swim proof" and shows commercials of people swimming yet if it's damaged by water we're just out of luck? That's terrible news...
That is not what I said. In any given case, Apple (or an Apple Authorised Service Provider) will decide and advise whether an Apple Watch is eligible for repair or replacement under warranty.
Hopefully someone can actually answer this question. I'd be highly upset to find that my swim proof watch isn't covered my water damage. The iPhone 7 warranty clearly states water damage in not covered but the watch series 2 warrany is vague about it at best.
As I hoped to explain in my first reply, you would need to check with Apple.
IT seems kind of shady they don't list it but advertise that I can swim with it they even have swimmimg in the workouts app. So if I'm just doing laps and the seal fails that's a manufactur defect but it can't be proved that I was doing say water skiing some thigh high velocity that the watch is not approved for
you are being vague yourself. It is false advertising that the watch can go in water (esp since many of apples ads show the swimming capability)
I swam in a pool today (probably 7th time in the water with my watch which is a series 2) The screen turned pink (the whites appeared as pink).
This is after i verified with a few apple store specialist about the different states under which the watch can go under water (2 cases: with the water lock and without) I was told that it would work in both cases.
As for the depth, the pool i swim in is 1m for the entire pool.
He was not being vague, he was responding with the only information that is available to a user. This is a user-to-user technical support site, no AppleCare workers are here. We don't work for Apple. The only people that can tell you with certainty that your Watch will be replaced under warranty are Apple technicians, either by making a Genius Bar appointment and taking it in to an Apple Store or sending it in for service.
I agree, I'm a hair dresser and my watch after washing hair this week did a tear drop said put on something port to eject water I had no clue what was talking about so I put on charger and it started working. I agree they should not advertise something and not completely cover what they advertise.
So good news I got my apple watch replaced. New device and all. Although is there any way to tell if a device is refurbished?
No there isn't.
I'm not sure what exactly you're trying to say in your comment, but it sounds to me like you activated the water lock feature (by swiping up to access Control Centre and clicking the droplet icon) which simply locks the display to avoid accidental input underwater.
All you have to do to return to normal operation is turn the crown, which will cause the speaker to play a sound ejecting water from the speaker cavity. Keep in mind however that the waterproofing still works just as well if this mode is not active.
You know what's funny I gave the exact same explanation to the apple tech.
This silly watch 2 is not even 3 metre water resistant as i have suffered from this frustating matter inside pool
