Only 1 of 1001 fragmented files defraged. ...

Doing maintenance on my Macbook Pro I set to defraging files.  Only 1 of 101 fragmented files were fixed and I got 100 error codes all along these lines

libswiftDispatch.dylib

libswiftFoundation.dylib

libswiftCore.dylib

and so on.

What does this mean? How can I fix it?  Do I need to fix it?  Can I work around it ti defrag the files?

Thanks

How are you defragmenting files?

Hello geoenviro,

You don't need to run any defrag on macOS. The operating system does for you that automatically.

Macs do not need that kind of attention. If you want something that does, get an exotic pet, or perhaps an old British motorcycle. Macs work best when treated with benign neglect.

Please refer to About disk optimization with Mac OS X - Apple Support.

If you had ever tried to de-frag an old British motorcycle you might hesitate to use it as an analogy.

I could have said an old BMW motorcycle, but that would have been too obvious.

That's great to know but what doesn't the presence of error messages indicate something that needs to be fixed?  Specifically, what is the deal with all the libswift items?

You should stop doing that. Macs have no need of defragmentation.
