Export Contacts Directly from Apple Watch?

I, like tens (perhaps hundreds) of thousands of people have run into the dreaded encrypted iTunes backup problem. Since I don't ever recall encrypting it, I clearly don't recall the password used (even though I tried every combination of passwords I could think of over a two hour period).

Bizarrely, when my iPhone (6S Plus) was wiped, my Apple Watch (paired to the phone in question) was not. All of the contacts are still present on the watch.

Here's the issue: how can I export the contacts directly from the Apple Watch so that I can restore them to the iPhone?

Other pertinent info:

The iPhone does not show a paired Apple Watch

The Apple Watch still rings when calls or messages are received, and shows the appropriate contact for the caller/messenger, even though the iPhone shows simply a phone number (since the contacts are no longer on the phone).

My concern is if I re-pair the Apple Watch to the iPhone, the data on the watch will be lost as the phone "overwrites" the data on the watch during the initial syncing.
