Why are my emails disappearing?

Please tell me this is a fixable problem.  What's the use of having an iPad if I have to keep logging onto my pc to check my emails?

I had thus same problem & fixed it by changing my "days to sync" in settings, mail, contacts, etc, then noose yor email accoun & mail days to sync. Switch it to no limit. All my dropped emails came ack! Make sure our "emails to show" limit is high enough as well.

You have to give us some information to go on before we can help.  I'm unclear on what you're having trouble with.  Can you be more specific?

When I get emails in my inbox I will move them to subfolders... For instance "job search".  When I go back to that folder to review a MSG or respond it the iPad will do a search and then right before my eyes they all disappear.  Why?  They are also disappearing from the actual inbox.

I use MSN live for my email account.

I have the same issue on my iphone.  My @me emails are disappearing.  When I update the inbox they don't come back.  Are these lost forever?  I had two important emails yesterday that I read, but when I went to review them later in the day they disappeared as I was about to open them!  I would like to know how to fix this and retrieve my emails....

I'm still a bit unclear what is going on, but in general these sorts of problems are caused by checking mail on multiple devices, and having the account set up as IMAP on one device and as POP on another.  IMAP is ideal for multiple devices, as it leaves the messages on the server and syncs the mailboxes on each device with the server.  POP is not, as it is designed to remove messages from the server and store them locally only.  If the messages are disappearing from the iPad, I'd guess it is properly set to use IMAP, but some other device is using POP, and after it checks mail, the messages are removed from the server (and, thus, from the iPad).

I don't think it's because I am opening them with different devices.  I don't have an iPhone, or a smart phone for that matter.  I did not go on-line w/ my laptop to check my email until after my iPad started dropping them.

My emails are going missing as well and I'm really not happy considering it always seems to be the important ones from my university tutor. Im with hotmail. And it's not to do with multiple devices because I only use my iPad for email an yes I didn't go on my computer to look until they went missing and luckily they were still on there but it's still annoying. I would really like to sort it out please help

I still have yet to find an answer for this... very frustrating.  :(

Has this always been the case or is it a recent problem?

You say, in your second post..... the iPad will do a search...... Please explain more clearly.

Try a Reset [Hold the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons down together for 10 seconds or so (until the Apple logo appears) and then release].

You can search your folders I thinks that is what's meant by that. I only had my iPad 2 Christmas and only noticed it last week but perhaps I only noticed this time because they were important emails unlike the spam I wouldn't notice them disappearing. I will give that a go

What I mean by search is the iPad is checking for new emails (I'm assuming).  The spinning circle in the top left hand corner is going.  Old emails will disappear and if any new ones come in they will pop up.  It doesn't do it every time, just every few days or so.  I've just learned to deal with it and if I need to go back to a particular email I just pull out my lap top, or I go to MSN website and log on that way.  I will try the reset button to see if that helps.

Alan, do you have any issues? Does your iPad keep all your emails?

Oh, and I got my iPad at the beginning of December and I've always had the issue.

Thankfully I have no issues with my email. I use a POP account.

Could it be anything to do with the number of emails in your settings? Go to Settings, Mail Contacts....  Mail, show and change the setting if appropriate.
