Playing 4K movies on Mac through iTunes?

I’ve been interested in purchasing 4K movies through iTunes and playing them from my laptop (15 inch MacBook Pro with touch bar) on my phone some of my movies will show the resolution (4K uhd etc). On the Mac iTunes app I don’t see anything about a resolution. It doesn’t show what quality it is and seeing with my 4K usb c adapter iTunes would play the 4K movie in 4K on my 4K hdr tv and not downscale to 1080. Just curious if buying a 4K movie through iTunes and plugging in my laptop would dispLy the best quality available.
