Adding a shared folder to the dock with Profile...

I'm having trouble adding a shared folder to the dock using Profile Manager.  I'm running MacOS 10.12.5 and Server 5.3.1.  I've tried adding a login item with smb://serverFQDN/share and I've tried adding the share as a dock item both as //drive/share and serverFQDN/drive/share.  I don't have a lot of experience with profile manager so please excuse me if I'm not explaining it very well.
