Stuck on Borderless format for Word doc

Using OS 10.12, I'm trying to use a new Word doc but it is stuck on the borderless option.  I've tried the dropdown option on layout and it refuses to change.  I've tried page setup and still no change.  Both tell me I'm not using borderless but the page tells me different.  I'd be grateful for any advice please.
