Cannot delete iPod playlist from iTunes

iPod 6, iOS 10.3.3; Win 10 Pro; iTunes 12.3.4.1:

I'm trying to sync the iTunes playlist "Instrumental Jazz" with an iPod playlist of the same name.  The music list on the iPod is a subset of music in iTunes. When nothing seemed to update the iPod playlist I deleted it at the iPod. Yet iTunes continues to display the playlist in the device, even after all instances of the device were removed from the account. My assumption is that if I can delete the iPod playlist in iTunes I may be able to actually sync. Or?
