Why is IBAN not supported as payment method?

Everyone in Europe has an international bank account number (IBAN). Why does Apple and i-Tunes not support direct debit from an IBAN?

You would have to ask Apple, we are just fellow users. But you can't set up any sort of Direct Debit (if you mean actual direct debit, as opposed to use using a debit card) with iTunes, whether via an IBAN or card number.
