Now that iTunes has disavowed apps...

How are people backup up their apps from their iPhones and iPads?

For over ten years we just plugged in our iOS devices and our Mobile Applications (aka other names) folders were filled with our apps, of all versions. Made it easier to restore our devices if we "hated" an upgrade. How will this work in the future? Has anyone found a "replacement"?

Actually, apps have not been transferred from iOS

device to Macs for quite some time now.  Only their

data has been backed up.

Once you have updated an app you will be stuck with it.  There

won't be any rolling back unless there is something in iOS 11 that

has yet to be publicized.

iTunes stopped backing up apps into iTunes two years ago with the introduction of app thinning in iOS 9. Since then you've had to download new apps from the store and update them independently on the computer if you wanted to keep those copies up to date. When you restore with iTunes any app not in the local library is pulled directly from the App Store over Wi-Fi, the same way as it would be if you restored from iCloud.
