Trackpad not responding

Hello,

My Macbook Pro (retina, early 2015) just froze and stopped responding when I left it asleep overnight. That has never been a problem in the past. When I tried to start it in the morning nothing was working except the power button. Forced reboot didn't solve anything. However, after lying unused for 2-3 weeks when I started it again, it worked as if nothing was ever wrong with it. But again the same thing happened when I left it sleep overnight. It hasn't worked since. Please help.

You should take your mac to an Apple store or authorized repair facility and have it looked into.

you said "nothing but the power button worked" but also said the power button "rebooted" which are conflicting statements kinda.

let me assume your battery is good and your plugged into the wall also.  assume you have a battery meter and it's all green.

Then when it is Not working what do you see?  You see it reboot how far?  To the Apple?  To the login?  Perhaps nothing (keyboard) works at the login?

Did you try resetting SMC and or PRAM/NVRAM yet ?

If you did that already, do you have your data backed up or need it backed up before attempting anything further ?  Do you think it is the OS, or perhaps a problem peripheral attached you could leave un-attatched ?

see macOS Sierra: Erase and reinstall macOS

Thanks for the reply.

When I reboot, I see my cursor frozen in the top left corner of the screen and the trackpad and keyboard are unresponsive except the power button, which works every time. I've done reboots many times but it doesn't help. I've also tried resetting the SMC and PRAM to solve this but it hasn't helped. My battery is working fine and I can charge it as well.

It seems to me its a software issue as it was magically alright one day just like that. I don't use any peripherals.

I haven't  backed up my mac in a while.

Thanks

I've also restarted my mac in recovery mode a number of times but the problem persists there as well.

i was going to say the same thing

I am having this exact same issue. I tried all of the above, hoping that it would be a software issue. Even completely reinstall OS, but the problem still comes up. Not all the time, but occasionally on startup. It will go days where it freezes at start up and then have a day or two where everything functions as normal.

Did you find a fix for this? I have read some places that these models (my Macbook Pro was purchased March 2015) are known for having this issue. Has Apple not provided a fix? I also read somewhere that it could be a hardware issue with the trackpad ribbon cable.

Any ideas?
