Mac won’t let me add files onto my hard d...

I just upgraded to macOS High Sierra and I can’t transfer any data onto my external harddrive that has been working just fine before the upgrade. I can view the files and transfer them onto my HD but that’s it. I checked the permissions and they say I can read and write, however I can’t change any permissions or the disk name and as I mentioned I can’t put any files onto it rendering it unusable with no visible reason. The only thing that changed was the OS. I tried first aid.
