Macbook Pro issues

My MacBook Pro laptop has been restarting itself basically every night I close the lid and it takes me a few minutes for me to get everything back into gear. Basically everything restarts. It's been doing this this past week and I can't figure out the problem. I've had this laptop for about three years now. I am getting a new one soon, but until then, how can I prevent this restarting from happening again?

I never restart my computer unless it has been extremely slow or if it needs an update.

I'd really appreciate help with this.
