Source deselect not working with Migration Assi...

MacOS Sierra 10.12.6 on Late 2014 Mini w/16GB ram was slow.  No scanners indicated malware, nevertheless Recovery Mode was used to erase boot drive and reinstall OS.  Alas, Migration Assistant failed to permit de-selection of various elements of Time Machine image where Drive Utility/First Aid showed no errors?  Since full Migration did not resolve the issue, the process was repeated with omission of admin user content and non-admin user folders were copied from TM to "Users" folder.  Due to the defective Migration Assistant, non-admin user instances were re-created by opting to use existing folders copied from TM.  Performance issues were resolved, but with a few problems.

Some Icons are generic and one app by de.iSolute.PDFSuite named "PDFSuite"purchased from App Store could not be located. "PDF Suite" is from a different vendor.  How does one determine when an App is no longer supported?  Why doesn't "Migration Assistant" appear as an Apple Software topic to better understand why it breaks?  Security often requires proactive effort with solid tools having importance equal to that of any creative app!
