Delete photos while previewing them like in win...

I am new to Mac (using since September 2011).

Love everything about it, except one very important feature is missing, unless, of course, I don't know how it's done correctly on the mac (Lion OS).

Let's say in Windows (any version) you can open a photo in standard windows picture viewer and if you don't like that photo, you can simply hit delete and that photo is deleted while _you are taken to a next photo_. This does not happen in Lion OS. If I delete the photo in standard mac's Preview by hitting Command+Delete, the photo is gone, but it takes me back to the beginning of the folder with all photos. Then I have to find where I stopped and continue my search. This is very inconvenient. Again, if I am doing something wrong - Please help!

Thank you in advance!

Karen

Preview, as the name implies, is meant just for quick and easy viewing of files in different formats, without having to open the applications that created the format. It is not design for file management.

I recommend using iPhoto (free with every Mac) to import, store, manage and edit your photos. You'll have a much easier time with it.

Thank you for your responce. I don't like using iPhoto due to its own library structure management. To me that's not an option. I have many hard drives with photos on them and I would like to be able to do what windows previewer does. Perhaps Apple can add such function to their Previewer. It does delete photos same way as in WIndows, why not jumping onto the next photo instead of taking me all the way back?

P.S. I meant quick preview option, where you hit Space to preview the photos.

Have you tried the 'Cover flow' option?  It might do exactly what you want to do.

Ciao.

Thank you. Cover flow is better, but it doesn't reveal blurry (bad) pictures since it shows photos in a much smaller size.

I am just surprised that Apple hasn't implemented such an easy function where instead of falling back to the first message, it would show you the next one.

It still may not be your cup of tea, but you can drag down the bar that separates the images from the text so that the images are larger. If that is not large enough, when your pointer is on an image, you may press the 'Space' bar and the image will be displayed full screen.

Ciao.

Thank you very much. I guess, that is what I would have to do for time being. Much appreciated!

Then try Google Pacasa. It is fully customizable.

You can request features, point out bugs, etc, at Apple Feedback pages:

  https://www.apple.com/feedback/

Thank you all for helpful hints. I've also submitted to Apple.

By the way, just wanted to let everyone know. I came across (maybe everyone knows about it, but I am new to OS X) a software called "Xee". It does everything you want, and it can delete photos exactly the way I wanted.

Thanks to all for all your help!

Command + Delete or drag picture in side-bar to trash.

That will do it.

Go to the folder with the pictures. Select all pictures (Command + A) then right click and select open. A preview window with all images will open, you can now browse through the pictures and if you don't like one delete it (Command + Delete). The picture will go straight to your trash can and you will be taken to the next picture. Hope this helps.
