Can you get split view on iPad mini?
wondering If iPad mini, first gen, can do The split view??
Nope. Sorry.
- Picture in Picture and Slide Over are available on iPad Pro, iPad Air or later, and iPad mini 2 or later. Split View is available on iPad Pro, iPad Air 2, and iPad mini 4.

This is very bad. when all these features were limited to some of the models then it should be described in general s/w update details. I have screen shot as well, as no where it was mentioned about the models. I just updated it and its useless on Ipad mini. Killing extra space on ipad drive. :-(
Apple should take care of such trivial things rather getting frustrated or agitated users.
Actually it was mentioned in the keynote, and it the footnote on www.apple.com/ios/whats-new/ since the day it was announced. Your lack of comprehension when Apple made it abundantly clear is not Apple's fault.
How is possible that on my iPad mini retina I can't have it? It's a 64 bit core and Retina display, tecnlically it can support this feature? I'm always more disappointed about Apple after the death of Steve Jobs, seriously. 500 Euro and I can't have all features? What the **** is going on in you?
It has to do with the RAM. They never promised that you would get split view when you bought the iPad in the first place, so I'm not sure why you're so mad about it. Most Android devices never see an update. Many Windows Mobile devices can't handle the updates. Palm never gave free OS updates...
that's why I didn't buy an Android or windows based device...
I'be chosen an Apple device because they always launched a "complete" software update on their devices, even old MacBook. Now I find so stupid to implement some features On a device and not on another one. I can try to believe to the story of RAM but as engineer I can't truly do it. I have a macbook santarosa with 4GB of ram with Yosemite and it works great! And now are you gonna telling me that on a iPad mini retina (pair to a iPad air, and so even on iPad Air) there isn't enough ram? Well, if this is the truth I believe that I have the right to be disappointed, because I always believed on a cutting edge company that can do good software and now they are failing, and they asked me 500 euro for a non-upgradable device. It wasn't theyr policy.
I Don't think that ram is the problem, of course. I am disappointed about a lot of stuffs. I am disappointed even about new MacBook Pro that isn't upgradable, for example, but this is another story.
I spent money because of my trust to a serious company, I am only expecting seriousness.
Obviously, this is your first time dealing with an older iDevice that cannot use all of the features of an iOS upgrade.
iPad 2, 3 and 4 users have been dealing with this fact with every new iOS upgrade.
This feature availability by iDevice model started with the iPad 2 NOT receiving Siri Voice command features.
The list of features that older iDevice models receive have been fewer and fewer with each newer iOS upgrade.
Your iPad Mini is finally joining the rest of us older iPad users.
WELCOME TO THE PARTY!!!!
It's a combination of BOTH a less powerful CPU AND not enough RAM installed to handle new iOS features reliably.
This is nothing new to older iDevice users.
It is simply a case of older, limited mobile hardware and software not being able to handle newer features of a much more complex and feature rich OS.
This is the same for Mac users.
My 2009, 27 inch screen iMac does not have some of the available features of OS X Yosemite and the new El Capitán.
Again, older hardware limitations prevents some features from being available.
iPad mini 2 is late 2013, it's not so old as your 2009 Mac or my 2007.
and this is not my first time dealing an "older" iDevice
Hi
If Apple kept making the same iPhones / iPad not as many people would buy.
Everytime a new iPhone / ipad comes out it must be improved .
I sell & upgrade every 2 years iPhone / ipad.
This is not just Apple it applys to everything that is man made
Like cars Tech will never stand still.
And if you want to keep up you need to upgrade .
Cheers
Brian ( uk)
I stop complaining, but sorry for you both, I only believe that is a marketing question and that's why I'm disappointed.
I can understad whatever you say but what I say is just "come on, you cannot try to force me to change my "old" iPad, that isn't so old. My ex girlfriend has an very old iPad 3 and she had more features in a lot of years than me in just 1 and half.
I've decided to buy a iPad instead of an android because of upgrades and now they changed their policy, that's why I'm complaining.
What are you saying is true but is something more "post Jobs" period and to be honest I feel unconfortable about that. I didn't buy a Macbook Pro because of not hardware-upgradability, even if I really need one of it (and I can use windows or linux). But I consider not fair sell such laptop with that tecnology at that price, risking some hardware fail after warranty period, it will mean change the laptop and I can't afford it. I consider a nonsense what they've done, I consider a nonsense this question of out-of-upgrade features.
I'm an enigneer, I know how they used to work before and I can ensure you both that now they are working differently, and for that I'm disappointed.
That's all.

Not true.
I own and continue to use a 64 GB iPad 3 and every iOS version since iOS 7 has major festures that my iPad 3 is not available for.
My iPad 3 can't use ANY of the new and cool iOS 9 features, at all, but I am not complaining. At least I get some of the newer iOS 9 improvements.
At least your iPad Mini 2 model gets 2 of the brand new iOS 9 major features. Picture in Picture and the Slide Over functionality.
Per Apple
Picture in Picture and Slide Over are available on iPad Pro, iPad Air or later, and iPad mini 2 or later.
My iPad 3 doesn't get those.
Out of all of the features of iOS 9, here's what I get for my iPad 3.
News App
FInd Friends (looks like a worthless app)
Better and easier overall cut, paste, copy operations.
Transparency window effects has improved on older iPad models
The new UPPERcase/lowercase onboard software keyboard.
The new software keyboard trackpad feature by tapping two fingers once anywhere on the software keyboard to navigate the onscreen text cursor.
Home Sharing has returned in iOS 9 (This was sorely missed by all in iOS 8, myself included).
More app icons visible on single pane app folders.
With iPad 3 and later with Siri, there is the new "Hey Siri" voice activation function.
This is all I could find for the time being.
Not exactly an exciting list of improvements for MY iPad 3.
I think you should be grateful that your iPad Mini 2 gets, at least 2 out of the 3 new major iOS 9 features.
I don't even get the drawing functionality in the updated Apple Notes app!! What is up with that!
I have other third party notes apps that I have, I can do drawing in, on my iPad 3. Why has Apple, not included this drawing functionality in their Notes App for older iPads? I do not understand what the issue was that couldn't make that functionality possible across ALL of the supported iPad models?
Your iPad Mini 2 probably gets this drawing functionality in the updated Apple Notes App.
You are complaining because you iPad doesn't get ONE of the new and cool iOS 9 features?
My iPad 3 doesn't get any of these features.
No Picture in Piicture, NO Slide Over, NO Split View, NO Handoff OR Continuity features, either. NO Air Play, also.

This is a user-to-user technical support forum. If you want to let Apple know what you think, though, it's the wrong place. They really don't read here. Use the feedback link:
https://www.apple.com/feedback
Did your Grampa's Ford Model T have ABS, air conditioning, power steering and GPS navigation? No. Could they be retrofitted? Only at a cost that would far exceed the price of the vehicle: i.e., not feasible, better buy a newer model.
Same thing here. Each device is built with the most effective hardware then available. Sensors, storage, screens, processors, etc. At least Apple has continued a policy of free OS upgrades and a coverage of as many devices it can, enabling as many features as the hardware will allow. Split-screen and PinP consume at least twice the amount of resources to carry out and would overwhelm less capable devices, which in turn would cause endless moaning and groaning on what a lousy performance the device was delivering.
In automotive history, the span between the Model T (first "car of the masses") and modern vehicles is around 100 years. it scrunches down to 5 years in "iPad Time", since the first iPad came out in 2010, with an equivalent evolution in features and capabilities.
