High CPU freeze and crash my MacBooks

I have 2 macbooks. I have been able to run them with high CPU and fan all the way up to the max noisy level with no problem. In the last week, one first and then the other started freezing and eventually shutting down in few minutes after turning them on. It looks that one process goes up to 100% CPU. Then the UI get unresponsive. I have sometimes seen the spinning wheel of death that almost immediate stop spinning. At this time I can either turn off the computer or wait until it turns itself off.
The weird part is that they started doing at the same time. I tried smcFanControl and after setting to max speed.  It delays the problem but it does not prevent it. The SMC was not reset lately at least on one of the computer.
When one started I though it was a hardware problem. I opened the laptop and remove a bunch of junk from the fans. But it did not solve the problem.
