Missing Contacts

My contacts are missing since the upgrade to MacOS 10.12.2.  Does this indicate that the upgrade did not complete properly?  How do I back out the upgrade?

  1. Check for updates to your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Mac, or PC. To use iCloud, your devices need to meet the system requirements.
  2. See if the date and time settings on your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Mac, or PC are correct.

You can sign into your I cloud account & by entering your I cloud id & password ,  click on settings just scroll down & click on restore contacts .

First don't panic, your contacts are likely exactly where they were. Begin by telling us exactly what occurs when you open the Contacts app.

I recently had a similar situation happen. Not when I upgraded to 10.12.2, but a short while later when I activated a new i-Phone and a new i-Pad. It turns out the contacts that were on the i-Mac appeared on the i-Pad. I have no idea how or why that happened, but simply going into Preferences on the i-Mac and making sure there was a check in the box before "Contacts" solved the issue. Perhaps you have something similar going on.

When  I open the contacts app there are no entries in the address book.  The last time the content was modified was Jan 07 just after midnight.  The last upgrade to the Mac OS was on Jan 07 just after midnight  coincidence?

Set your settings to:

System Preferences - iCloud - Check Contacts

Contacts - Preferences - Accounts - iCloud

I've done all these things and nothing, no contacts at all!  I went into my backup drive, found the last previous folder, Jan. 7th, coincidentally, but there is no place on my iMac where it should go!  I see no Library file under my user name, no current Contacts file, nothing.  Could the OS just be defective (as it takes me 20-30 seconds every time I want to open Preview, or Text Edit, or any file, etc., ever since I upgraded to 10.11.6) and I should just do a reinstall?

This is very frustrating have ZERO CONTACTS accessible to me. I even made a copy of the previous one, sitting here, but have no idea where it can go!  This is really, really frustrating

I signed into my iCloud, and see nothing that says "Settings" much less Restore Contacts...

Where is the "Restore Contacts" link?  I click on the one above, and it just opens a jpg of the image, where's the file?

I too lost my Contacts when I upgraded to Sierra (one of the reasons I hate to upgrade these days; unannounced problems) on my iMac.  Is there a way retrieving this data from Time Machine backups? I don't this type of data in iCloud.

Open your web browser type www.icloud.com , then enter Apple ID and password , click on settings on bottom left you will see advanced > click on restore contacts a window appears just like this , click on done .

UPDATE: figured what happened.  Went to the original Software in my system folder, say there was data their, clicked it open and all data was there.  Apparently, the alias that was on my desktop lost it's link during the upgrade.  Created new alias and all is fine.
