Unable to open Calendar on Mac after attempt to...

MBPR early 2015; 10.10.5: Have postponed dealing with this, but needs fixing: when entering an event, some kind of software freeze so event is half-in but not completed. Unable to use Calendar at all after this happened: is frozen on the event. Tried verifying/correcting permissions (which is done regularly) and no other ideas; no joy. Suspect must wipe out Calendar and replace. Need step-by-step instructions how to do so and keep existing calendar data. iCloud version of calendar not as convenient to use. Thanks for any help offered!

Might be a corrupt .plist.

Do a backup, preferably 2 backups on 2 separate drives.

Quit the application.

Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J.  When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder.  Select Library. Then go to Preferences/com.apple.iCal.plist.  Move the .plist to your desktop.

Restart the computer, open the application, and test. If it works okay, delete the plist from the desktop.

If the application is the same, return the .plist to where you got it from, overwriting the newer one.

Thanks to leonie for some information contained in this.

Thanks for the swift and clear response - I will test and let you know.

Eric, finally getting around to this...

"That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder.  Select Library. Then go to Preferences/com.apple.iCal.plist.  Move the .plist to your desktop."

I have several com.apple.iCal.plist's, that you described and several others with suffixes (...yureRJa). iCal is but one of several applications with similar file directories.

Presuming I should change the suffix-less file which is also the largest, but curious about all of those extra .plists. No response needed.
