Is there no way to leave iMessage on and still ...

Is there no way to leave on iMessage and still receive non Apple user texts? My daughters do not have data so they cannot text me when I have iMessage on. This is no good.

In order to use standard SMS text messaging the iPhone must be connected to the cellular network. iMessage relies on the data network or Wi-Fi Network in order to receive iMessages from Apple Devices. According to the information you've provided to us, it looks like your daughters will not be able to send or receive iMessages because they don't have data or Wi-Fi.

Turning on iMessage will not prevent you from getting SMS messages from non-iPhone users.
