Random screen flickering while watching videos.

So whenever I go to watch Netflix or Youtube, the video will play fine, but about 30 seconds after it playing, it flickers the video across the screen or dims for a second or two, and then go back to normal. This issue started happening when I upgraded it to OSX Sierra.  I wouldn't find this a big deal if it only happened once or twice, but it happens every 30-60 seconds on Netflix and youtube. I tried restarting my MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Early 2015) with no luck. So, does anyone think they have a potential fix to this? (P.S. Yes everything is fully updated)

Hey there! I have been facing this exact same issue with probably the same MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Early 2015, 128GB SSD). You can check my comments in these threads:

So far, no solutions. But I've been using Firefox for Netflix playback and I didn't face any issues.

Thank you so much,

Actually, it appears apple has fixed the issue since it doesn't happen anymore for me. I have used google chrome, safari, and firefox and they all work flawlessly now. But, thanks for the help anyways

Hey there! I'm glad to hear it's working for you.

I've tried playing on Safari again for a few minutes but I'm still seeing the issues (apparently it took a bit longer to happen). Did you update any software or changed anything?

Hey i recently purchased a macbook pro 15 retina and after updating it to sierra i have been facing exactly the same issues and could not seem to find a workaroud rather than using firefox. Anything you could find?

Nearly a week later, and no news, unfortunately. All we can confirm is that this is happening with Early 2015 MBPs, as seen in these three threads:

Firefox has been running very well, but I'd still like to watch Netflix in Safari. I wonder, is there any way we can reach Apple for a better support in this issue?

No, it actually turns out that it has become and intermediate thing, like for a few hours it will work perfectly fine, hence me saying it was fixed, but after a few hours it started happening again.
If its not fixed in the next few days, I gonna shoot a quick email to apple.

Sorry to hear that the problem is back! Here's a summary of what we've got so far:

Issue

- Netflix flickering

- Netflix videos rewind like a VHS for about a second

- Happens in medium intervals, from 30 seconds up to 2 minutes

- Happens exclusively on Safari and on Chrome fullscreen

- Moving the mouse to the top of the screen to show the menu bar (hence not being full screen)

- In some devices, changing the resolution from "default for display" to "scaled" and selecting something different than default removes flickering

- Reboot in recovery mode, NVRAM reset and SMC reset didn't work

- Only "solution" so far has been playing on Firefox

- Affects mostly 2015 MacBook Pros, but we have reports of 2015 MacBooks (12-inch) and 2011 MacBook Pros (13-inch, non-retina)

I've been having this same issue on several websites not just netflix. It happens on facebook, reddit and others. Once I had the 'new-tab' page on safari in the background doing it.  I've taken a video with my phone to demonstrate my problem.

Hi! My mid 2014 MacBook Pro (15 inch, retina) also has the same issue. I'm glad to hear that it might be due to OS Sierra since last year they had to replace my entire motherboard due to the screen as well. I was thinking of taking it to the nearest iShop but I guess I'll wait to see if they fix it with a new update.

Awesomedude415 im having the same issue this issue started once I upgraded to Sierra its getting really annoying I've already wiped my laptop thinking it was bug but now I don't think it was.

Also happens to me on a MacBook Pro (Retina, Mid 2012)

I have a 2017 MacBook Pro with the same issue.  It happens in Chrome and flickers the screen when I play any video on Facebook, Youtube or Netflix.  I have to close the browser and restart it to get rid of the flicker.  It happens intermittently.  My only solution is restarting the browser, but I'd love to hear of any solutions that actually fix the problem.   Thanks!

Hey I had a similar problem where there would be a random flicker when I was watching Netflix in full screen for forever but found the solution to be turning off subtitles if you have them on. I've been able to watch Netflix full screen without flicker since then
