iCloud Pages Documents Do Not Update

I'm having problems with Pages failing to get the updated iCloud document.

I use Pages to edit a shared document between an iPad Air (2013 version 128Gb) running iOS 10.3.2, an iPad Pro 12.9" (2016 version 256 Gb) running iOS 10.3.2, an iPad Pro (2015 15" version) running macOS 10.12.5, and an iMac (2012 version) running macOS 10.12.6 (just updated).

The problem is, I will edit the Pages document on my iPad Air verify that it has updated to iCloud. Later in the day, I will open my iMac or Macbook Pro to further edit the same document, only to find that an older version of the document is there. Opening it does not automatically update it, leading to numerous "File out of sync" errors that force me to choose between two edited versions.

I'd like to know if there is something I can do to (a) permanently fix this, and/or (b) prevent it from happening again.

Things I have already tried:

-Updated iMac to latest operating system version

-Made sure option for Pages documents to sync via iCloud is checked on all devices

-Tried unchecking the Pages sync and then later rechecking it, thinking this would force a document sync (it did not)

-Tried editing the document within the browser-based iCloud version of Pages (it is there, so iCloud is receiving the updated document)

-Made sure all involved computers are connected to the internet at the time Pages is being used

-Made sure there is plenty of free space in iCloud drive (over 4.7Gb free)

To make matters more frustrating, the issue is intermittent. At times, I will get the updated document, but not consistently. Today is one of those days where the documents are out of sync and I can't figure out why. It appears my iMac is just not receiving the updated document from iCloud.

Any suggestion or insight would be greatly appreciated.

If your Macs are not switched on all the time, they will need to update everything when they are switched on, are you sure you are allowing enough time for this to start and finish?

You can see sync progress in the Finder.

Yes, they are actually on almost all of the time. The problem is in my iMac, I see the iCloud Drive icon but there no status indicator. The document it sees are 3 days old. It doesn't see the most recent documents for some reason.

Those are the status indicators, don't use a document whilst you still see them next to the document you want to use.

Right, I never use those as long as I see a status indicator. Problem is, despite following this good practice, the documents in my iMac do not update. What can I do to jump-start the updating process? This is very annoying for something that is supposed to make my life more convenient.

You shouldn't have to jump start the process, if you do there must be something wrong generally with your set up, however, you might try by adding a document to iCloud Drive yourself.

So, this time, I got the idea to try adding a document to Pages/iCloud by creating the document in my iMac - the computer that is having trouble seeing the latest Pages iCloud documents. The moment I saved the new test document, suddenly all the other iCloud documents updated within iMac's Pages document load box.

So.... I might have a temporary fix now, though I'm not sure how to prevent this from happening in the future.

Am I really the only person experiencing this issue? I swear the internet and network is working fine on my iMac. Everything else is hunky-dory.

Yes, that's what I meant by...

So, after that "fix" seemed to fix the problem, the problem has now recurred with an existing document on my iPad Air which is caught eternally in an update cycle. I don't seem to have found a permanent fix. Adding a document using the iPad Air does not work - both eternally update without updating. Adding a document using another computer sharing the same iCloud account does not work either - the document remains on that computer and does not update on my iPad.

Is iCloud always this buggy?

Am I the only one experiencing this?
