Why does my trackpad create a clear box with my...

I have a MacBook Air that is 3 months old. The cursor creates a clear box that drags all over the screen and won't allow me to click on anything else. The only way to make the "phantom" box go away is to do a hard shut down. Force quit won't work. This problem just started yesterday. I've tried to shut it down instead of letting it sleep but the problem came back. It looks like the box you'd drag over multiple files on a desktop to choose them.

I would take it in for testing/repair - it's under warranty.
