Applications not responding

Just recently bought a new imac 2017 it came with Sierra pre downloaded. I already have a 2009 27" imac which is failing but I managed to migrate via time machine to my new Imac. The migration went fine but was unable to start my 3D applications such as Maya, zbrush, photoshop etc, I phoned support who stated I would be unable to downgrade to El Capitan just wanted to know if it's possible to downgrade or I am snookered? I have to my imac back anyway as I have a thin uniform green down the right hand screen so I will have to take it back anyway.kn

But I just wanted to know what my options are is there any point in getting the new 2017 imac or am I stuck with older imac models which I rather not do. This very annoying and I am in a bit of a dilemma over this of what to do.
