Snow Leopard & Yosemite

I have an early 2009 Mac Pro and I'm trying to create a dual boot of Yosemite and Snow Leopard. My main HD is an SSD with two partitions, one empty and one with Yosemite. I need to install Snow Leopard on the empty Partition.

I found an old laptop with 10.6.8 installed on it and tried to Time Machine all the data into the partition but I got prompted since the data is from a different machine it can't be done. I found an install DVD I purchased a while ago at the Apple Store for 10.6.3, but when I booted from the DVD it hung on the grey Apple logo white background. Of course inside Yosemite itself when I mount the DVD image, Snow Leopard's installer is crossed out and can't be opened.

Is there some kind of firmware patch applied when you install a newer OS like Yosemite that prevents you from installing an older OS like Snow Leopard and is there a way around this?

You need the original install DVD that shipped with your Mac Pro, then you'll be able to upgrade from there.

I purchased this Mac Pro used and it didn't come with an install disk. What are my options?

You can try contacting Apple, or an Apple Aurhorized Service Provider may be able to help.
