Why am I having to repurchase items on iTunes?

I have already purchased an item on iTunes. When I go to the tv show in my iTunes account, it shows that I have purchased it but then will not let me download the items again. I have removed the downloads from my library because of room on my startup disk. Am I doing this wrong? How can I get access to my downloads again if I wish to rewatch an episode without having to repurchase them? I am trying to be careful about copyrights and do things the legal way but to be honest, I don't want to pay more than I have already paid.

Go to the Account > Purchased menu option, you can redownload items there (assuming that they are still in the store and you are in a country where that type of item can be redownloaded). If it doesn't show there check to see if you've hidden it from there : Hide and unhide iTunes Store, App Store, or iBooks Store purchases - Apple Support.
