My iPad says I have 4 viruses. How can I remove them

You don't have any viruses unless you jailbroke your iPad. If you saw this message in a pop up window in Safari, close Safari and then clear it to get rid of the message.

Double tap the home button and then swipe to get to Safari in the multitasking screen. Swipe up on the Safari preview window to close the app.

Now clear Safari. Go to Settings>Safari>Clear History and Website Data

If you saw the message somewhere else, explain where you saw it.
