Internal audio and headphones not recognized

macOS Sierra with 10.12.6 on MacBook Air (2014). After restarting my computer, my internal speakers suddenly do no show up as an audio output device nor do headphones whenever I plug them in. The only thing that shows up is my apple tv (which is not even on). Tried contacting apple through the customer support chat, but that application is not working either. If anyone knows a fix to this, it would be much appreciated. Thank you!
