Is the Mac Mini dead?

Hi,

First poster here. Just curious on peoples opinions if the Mac Mini is dead? I like the Mini as it gives us a separate unit to accessories & don't need to send in a whole screen etc, if I need it fixed, like the iMac...

I'm fortunate enough to have bought a 2012 i7 Mini & upgraded it with 16GB RAM &, a data doubler kit with the 1TB spinner & a 500GB SSD. This setup works well! But, I do hope we get a new Mini soon, as this one is running long in the tooth, & I'd buy another even if it has soldered RAM.

No one here knows, but I don't believe there will ever be a new model as good as the one you have, since I consider having the option of upgrading to be good.

I hope there is something in the works. I really dislike the iMac concept.

C: Look, matey, I know a dead Mac mini when I see one, and I'm looking at one right now.

O: No no he's not dead, he's, he's restin'! Remarkable bird, the Mac mini, idn'it, ay? Beautiful plumage!

The current model is the (dead parrot) 2014 model. Many people would share your opinion that the 2012 model which I also have is the best model to get as you can upgrade the memory and easily swap or upgrade drives in it, it is also unlike the 2014 model available in a quad-core i7 configuration.

My biggest concern is that all Mac mini models so far have feeble video chips and for example would not be able to play Apple's new 4K HDR movies from the iTunes Store.

Only Tim Cook knows whether Apple will issue a refreshed Mac mini. The amount of time this is taking is sadly not not new with Apple. However as possible hope consider the fact that the Mac Pro - last updated in 2013, is going to get a new model released next year. (It might only ship in 2019 though.)
