Apple Watch 2 has stopped talking to iphone 5s

Updated both my iPhone 5s and watch2 to the latest iOS update on both, since then my watch has disconnected from my iPhone, I followed apple’s instructions of forgetting Apple Watch and then pairing them up again but when I go to Apple Watch app and it says align screen with Watch it does nothing then when I try to connect manually or. Type I Watch name into iPhone the keyboard doesn’t show up to allow me to type! 

Has anyone else experienced this issue? 

Prior to me updating both watch and iPhone were working perfectly together.
