iTunes backup now grayed out

I wanted to update my iPhone 6s Plus to iOS 11 but prior to doing so, I wanted to make sure to back up my phone. I always like to have a back up on my computer but when I went to do that in iTunes, the option for "back up now" was grayed out and disabled. I have never had a problem with this before and have done it many times. No matter what I click on or what I do, the option is disabled. I've reinstalled iTunes (I'm running the current version) about five times now, even downloading a program to delete every file so I can get a clean install and nothing works. If anyone could help, I would appreciate it! I have no idea what happened or why it suddenly stopped working.
