Video display glitches & system instability...

Hi,

I have a late 2013 MacBook Pro 15 inch with a nVidia GeForce GT 750M GPU.

Since I upgraded to High Sierra on release day, I observe many video-related problems. A given application will suddenly refresh itself incorrectly. It may stop responding for a little while. Usually, this will be reflected in /System/Library/Logs/DiagnosticReports/, where I'll get many Kernel-<date>_<computer>.gpuRestart files. Sometimes things will go back on their legs; most of the time, the fan will go up to full speed and it will stay like this indefinitely, so a power off is the only option. Before the supplemental update, I also got kernel panics in that context.

Supplemental update did not resolve the issue. Since the problems started precisely after updating to High Sierra, a hardware failure seems less likely than a software problem.

I installed nVidia "Web Driver" package on friday night, when it was made available to users with the High Sierra supplemental update installed. So far, no video glitches, no system freezing, no kernel panics. A single .gpuRestart new file in /System/Library/Logs/DiagnosticReports/ . So almost 48 hours without an issue, which is a nice change from the 1 to 4 forced shutdown per day I was getting before.

Still, too early to tell. I am posting this here since I did not find much info and exchanges with Apple support did not lead to any improvements on this issue. I'm not sure which forum is the best place to post this either.

Excerpts from the gpuRestart & kernel panic log files follow.
