iTunes doesn't see some AirPlay devices

I have three AppleTVs and three AirPorts set up on my home network with AirPlay. From any iPhone on the network I can play music through any of AirPort or video through any AppleTV with no problem. All AppleTVs and AirPorts connected to my local network through ethernet.

I also have Mac Pro on the same network (same subnet) and I can only see one of AppleTVs as an AirPlay device available to stream to. In iTunes on Mac Pro, there is an AirPlay icon and when I click on it, there is only one AppleTV listed. I would expect all AirPorts be listed there too so I could stream music there.

Interestingly, this happens with WiFi turned off on Mac Pro. When I turn WiFi on (and connect to the same network my iPhones connected to), AirPlay icon disappears from iTunes....

Firewall is turned off on Mac Pro.

My intermediate goal is to be able to stream music from iTunes on Mac Pro to any of my AirPlay enabled devices. My ultimate goal is (with a help of an app like airfoil) to be able to stream music from my iPhone to multiple AirPlay enabled devices at the same time.

Please Help.

Thank you

Howdy goshanyc,

I understand that you're experiencing some issues utilizing certain AirPlay devices from your Mac Pro. Fortunately the steps outlined below can help get AirPlay to work on your Mac as it does on your iOS devices.

When an AirPlay enabled device is available, you'll see an AirPlay icon to the right of the volume slider in iTunes. If you don't see the icon, follow these steps:

  1. Check that you have the latest version of iTunes and Apple TV software.
  2. Connect your computer and your other device to the same Wi-Fi network. If you're using Ethernet, connect both devices to the same router or hub. If you're using both Wi-Fi and Ethernet, connect your AirPlay device to the same router that your computer uses for Wi-Fi.
  3. Restart your computer, AirPlay device, and network router.
  4. Since some Airplay devices include an on/off option for AirPlay, look for the option in Settings and make sure the feature is on. Check the device's user guide for more information.

All my best.

Allen A,

I appreciate you trying to help me, but since I do see an AirPlay icon to the right of the volume slider in iTunes, your solution obviously does not apply to my situation.

goshanyc,

Thank you for using the Apple Support Community. Due to the nature of your issue or question you may find more information by using another one of Apple's support resources - https://getsupport.apple.com/GetproductgroupList.action.

All my best.

Allen A,

your response puzzles me. You do not have to help me if it is outside of your experience. I hope someone in the community will eventually help me.

You also do not have to suggest me anything, but if you feel like your suggestion may help, I would appreciate if you are less general and more specific.

Thank you

I have the same issue and would like a specific answer as well.
