Where is meltdown patch or is Apple forcing OSX...
Running Sierra and have important software that high Sierra wont run because of Apple bugs in their latest OSX. I would like to simply patch my working Sierra with a simple fix - like Microsoft did for windows - but looks like Apple is forcing customers to update to the buggy High Sierra to get ?
This can't be right?
You may have misread or misinterpreted whatever you read.
Apple isn't forcing anyone to run High Sierra to be protected from the Meltdown and Spectre issues. 10.13.1 and 2, 10.12.6 and 10.11.6 were all patched December 2017. Look under the Kernel patches - there are several. And here.
Sierra Security Update 2017-002 patched the two issues. Your build should be the same as mine below (16G1114) if you applied the Security Update.

What official Apple statement did you read that said that?

So, are you saying that this "important software" cannot run on macOS Sierra, let alone High Sierra? Did you already verify with the software provider that their product(s) are verified to work with either OS?
Apples own press release, "high" Sierra will have the patch.
No, as I wrote in my post it works on Sierra but not high Sierra. Many software venders wont certify their softwares on new operating system releases. Especially Apples. This is not unusual at all as a matter of fact. Most generic widely used software is cheap and updated of course but specialized software - as is my case - costing around 7 grand a year just to lease you learn not to be a guinea pig. When the software companies say its compatible and supported, then at that point only do I update.
Like I said , Microsoft does simple patch fixes, Apple can and has done the very same on rare instances but usually they just force the entire OSX update so they can claim a wider adoption rate.

Thats great and exactly what I was looking for. Thanks. Glad Apple deemed this enough of an emergency to issue a patch fix without forcing the OS update.

Care to retract your scurrilous and libelous accusations then?
Why do the details content of Security Update 2017-002 are not listed here?
Apple security updates - Apple Support
Because they're in a different link at About the security content of macOS High Sierra 10.13.2, Security Update 2017-002 Sierra and Security Update 2017-005 El Capitan.
Why would I retract? Apple has forced downloads and updates on users against their wishes stealing privately owned bandwidth and storage space for years. Oh yes, sheeple.
They haven't forced anything. Yes, updates are automatic by default, but there's nothing stopping the user from clicking the App Store icon in the System Preferences and changing the settings to whatever you want. I have mine set to automatically download and install security patches, but nothing else. I'll get all other updates when I feel like it.
It's been like this in every version of the Mac OS since OS X was first released. All you needed to do was look.
If you want truly forced updates, use Windows 10. You can turn off updates, but the OS will turn them back on without asking after a week (or something). Don't remember how long without looking, but you literally can't turn updates off and have it stay that way.
Unfortunately, you're wrong
the 2nd link you Apple statement about Meltdown (patched Dec 6/17 for 10.11.6 and up) & Spectre - Spiceworks
Apple has updated this one again and removed the references to Sierra and El Cap containing patches for CVE-2017-5754 aka Meltdown.
https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT208331
Via: https://twitter.com/mikeymikey/status/949345240099377152
So right now ONLY 10.13 High Sierra contains the patches.
Shockingly bad support from Apple....... El Cap & Sierra still remain unpatched
LOL !
Remember I’m talking OSX + IOS patches as all systems have this chip vulnerability . And you cannot turn off IOS auto updates in anything IOS. You can only block Apple from your router thus preventing them from stealing your bandwidth and private storage as I do. Once you’ve been hijacked by the download your given a Hobson’s choice with misleading options only allowing you to choose install now or later that night? Daily I get a forced download at work that I can’t prevent only to have to delete them when I get home every night. Only way to prevent is be a free beta tester guinea pig and install latest update willingly. As a 32 year Apple guy, I’ve learned to wait it out.
