How to erase in notes ios11

There was a way to completely erase or clear drawings in a note. There is no option to erase all when tapping and holding the eraser. Is this by design?

I haven’t used this feature very much, but after experimenting I found that if I held down on the eraser and then dragged it across the drawing, I was able to delete the entire thing at once.
