Apple watch Ver. 1 nightstand mode not working ...

After updating my phone to iOS 11 (now 11.0.1), my Apple Watch 1st gen. will not display nightstand mode.  What am I not doing?

Yep, won’t work even if you change the setting. I guess this is Apples way to say upgrade. I just did to a good old mechanical watch. Sure there where a few things I liked, but three years with an ugly, huge, thick watch that only really gave you the heartbeat is not enough.
