Command Key missing

Hi,

I have a brand new iPad Pro 2.  I can't find a command key on my keyboard however. Instead I have an emoji key where the command key should be. I checked my settings, and the keyboard is set to standard version with the emojis turned off. Is there any way to get a command key instead? I can include a photo of the keyboard if you need one.

The Command Key is on a Smart Keyboard, not on the software keyboard. See this article for details:

You mean on screen keyboard? There is no Control, Alt or Command key in there.

All of the guides for shortcuts on an iPad keyboard refer to a command key, but they don't mention control or alt keys. The photos they show on how-to sites show the command key. My iPad keyboard looks exactly like the photos except the emoji key is swapped in instead.

I am not familiar with either a command key or a control- or alt- key for iPad (on the on-screen keyboards).

Yes, a screen shot would be helpful if you have evidence to the contrary.

Also, it would be helpful if you told us what you would use this key for if it existed.

Meanwhile, here is a discussion from the iPad User Guide:

HHere's a site from 2014 that specifcally describes how to use an iPad keyboard. The image in the photo looks like my keyboard, but apparently the writer was able to use shortcuts with it.

Your keyboard as shown, is the only iPad keyboard. The instructions on the site you linked above are at best bizarre, at worst they are all incorrect.

I suspect that guide left out one important piece of information: those shortcuts require a bluetooth keyboard.

Indeed the Smart Keyboard for iPad Pro (accessory - costs extra) does have these keys:

(Although I do not see an "alt" nor any function keys here.)

They are available for purchase here:

As I mentioned in a post above the Command Key is on a Smart Keyboard.

Thanks everyone for your help. I was going crazy trying to figure this out.

Always glad to help someone maintain their sanity!

Most disgusting thing I’ve seen yet by Apple—describing use of a “command” key that I don’t have on the virtual keyboard of either my iPad Air or iPhone.  IInstead I have an emoji key that pops up hundreds of cute little useless icons : - (
