delete a folder of bookmarks, or a bookmark in ...

ok, that's how do I delete a folder of bookmarks, or bookmark in sierra? While searching for an answer, I saw one reply that said, in effect, just go back to Chrome. I can't believe there is no simple way to delete a folder, or a bookmark. Or just move a bookmark to another folder. I just ditched Chrome because it seems like a malware magnet. But this is stupid! I can''t select bookmarks to delete them. I click on them and that opens a new pane. Option click doubles them, now I have two bookmarks. Or two folders! What? What is the problem? Does anybody know how to fix this or is this all a new feature?

Do you have any other ideas?  Control click didn't work for MacBook pro running High Sierra trying to delete bookmarks in Safari.
