iPad 2 honda link

I own an IPad 2 and bought a HONDA city 2017 vehicle which is compatible with her a Honda link application. What I wish to know is if this software needed as well as the Cables that I need to buy can be used with my iPad to or I have to buy a new iPad or a new iPhone which might that have a lightning connector.
